Beyond the Wellness Room at Victor J. Andrew High School helps offer wellness opportunities to all T-Bolts. Funded through a grant from the District 230 Foundation, Beyond the Wellness Room focuses on student-led wellness enrichments, called wEvolve, and is designed to increase cross-disciplinary enrichments working alongside the Art and Science departments.

According to Andrew Intervention Specialist Tammy Stamus, “Our mission is to continue to empower our students by giving them the tools to help navigate the challenges of the world and support one another as they continue to build resiliency skills.”

Beyond the Wellness Room offers two wellness enrichments per month and focuses on wellness activities and strategies that students can use in their everyday lives. The enrichments are hands-on so students can disconnect from their phones and tap into different senses. They are designed to reach students from many diverse backgrounds and genders.

Some of the first semester enrichments include guided paintings, potted plants, air dry clay, mindful jars, seashell bracelets, kindness rocks, winter painting, and comfort dogs.

Beyond the Wellness Room is a continuation of the VJA Wellness Room, a grant that helped open a Wellness Room just prior to the pandemic. With the rise in mental health needs as students returned from at-home learning, Beyond the Wellness Room is an extension grant providing enrichments to reach the entire student body year-round.
