As soon as David Waters graduated high school, he enlisted in the Army as a fire direction specialist. He served with the 101st Airborne Division during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After he returned from serving in the Army, he went on to study at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where he received a Bachelor's Degree in History. He then went back to serve. In June 2003, while he was commanding the 101st Airborne Division's Pathfinder Company, he led his company against militant insurgents, capturing many rebels and securing an "improvised explosive device" cell (IED). In 2005, he earned a Masters of Public Administration from the JFK School of Government at Harvard University. Waters then went on to pursue an opportunity to teach defense and strategic studies at West Point Academy.

ABOUT US 

The District 230 Foundation is a partnership between community volunteers and school leaders to provide educational opportunities and services for students beyond what the typical budget can fund. The Foundation provides grants that bring teachers' creative ideas to life for students, as well as scholarships to graduating seniors from Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew High Schools. The District 230 Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with the law.
