Samantha Barry - Sandburg High School 2026
Samantha Barry has achieved great things in all aspects of her Sandburg experience. As a student, Samantha ranks in the top 5% of her class while completing a challenging course sequence. As an athlete, she has been a high-level performer in both the Girls Swimming and Girls Water Polo programs. Additionally, Samantha’s proactive leadership was integral in the formation of the National Athletic Honor Society at Sandburg. Amidst Samantha’s many academic and personal strengths, her unwavering pursuit of helping others best evidences her impact on the Sandburg community. Samantha has amassed nearly 400 community service hours throughout her time at Sandburg. Further, she has accumulated her impressive service record through helping 12 local organizations, displaying her keen understanding of civic engagement throughout the community. Samantha’s accomplishments in each of these areas earned her class of 2026 “Outstanding Eagle Award” recognition, one of the highest honors a student can receive at Sandburg. As superintendent, I am especially thankful for Samantha’s leadership as part of the Superintendent’s Advisory Board. Her insight and feedback have been invaluable to numerous District 230 improvement efforts. Samantha will attend Illinois State University next year and study Nursing.

Ryan Wachtel - Stagg High School 2026
Ryan Wachtel is an outstanding student whose extensive involvement and leadership truly set him apart. He consistently demonstrates a positive spirit, motivation, and respect that inspire peers and staff alike. Academically, Ryan ranks among the top of his class and has excelled in the most challenging courses. However, what truly distinguishes him is his commitment to making a meaningful impact beyond the classroom.
Ryan serves as President of the Student Council, after serving as Vice President and an active member throughout his high school years. He skillfully leads and organizes numerous school events, fundraisers, and initiatives that promote inclusivity and school spirit. Ryan represents his peers on both the Principal’s Advisory Board and the Superintendent’s Advisory Board, where he provides thoughtful feedback and collaborates with school and district leaders to improve the student experience.
Ryan’s leadership extends to a wide array of activities. As a section leader in the marching band, captain of the volleyball team, and an active participant in clubs like Best Buddies and Yearbook, he continually demonstrates dedication, teamwork, and the ability to balance diverse commitments effectively. His role as a Teen Staff Leader for Operation Snowball exemplifies his passion for fostering mental health awareness and positive peer influence.
Ryan thrives when surrounded by peers who share his aspirations, enthusiasm for inclusivity, and commitment to fostering a positive community culture. Ryan embodies the qualities of a motivated, respectful, and positive young leader who consistently values teamwork and inclusivity.

Drew Alexander - Andrew High School 2026
Drew Alexander is a scholar athlete whose leadership has left a lasting mark on the Andrew community. Ranked in the top 1% of his class, he exemplifies excellence in both academics and character. As he prepares to attend Indiana University to study Business and Finance, he leaves behind a legacy defined by commitment and leadership.
A dedicated three sport athlete in Football, Basketball, and Baseball, Drew balanced athletics with outstanding academic achievement. His leadership is evident through his roles as President of National Honor Society, Vice President of T-Bolt Storm, and his involvement in Senior Leaders and the Superintendent Advisory.
Drew’s character truly sets him apart. As an Ambassador for Illinois Special Olympics and through over 158 hours of service, including his work as a Peer Helper and tutor, he has consistently prioritized supporting others.
Drew’s impact is felt throughout our school, and his efforts have prepared him well for the next chapter.
