Robert Pierson's education as an Eagle prepared him to excel in his field and navigate to an executive level without a college education. Bob began his remarkable journey as an electrician in 1965 as he was initiated into Local 9 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) serving 2,900 union members. Due to his dedication, loyalty and strong work ethic to Local 9 and for the betterment of the IBEW, Bob quickly moved up the ranks from business representative for his local to Business Manager, a position he held until his retirement. In 2005, Bob was appointed IBEW Chairman of the International Executive Council representing more than 800,000 members in the United States and Canada. A post he was re-elected to in 2006 and 2011. His unending dedication to his fellow brothers and sisters of the IBEW and to the labor efforts across the country is a true testament of his devotion to his membership and the labor movement. Bob’s roots may have been with Local 9, but he always kept the best interest of the entire IBEW membership to provide a higher standard of living for his membership. On January 8, 2016, his and Shirley’s 50th wedding anniversary, Bob officially retired after 10 years as chairman of the International Executive Council, nearly 20 years as Local 9 business manager, and 50 years as a member of Local 9. Sadly, on June 6, 2017, Bob passed away.
