Mike Navarro

During his high school athletic career, Mike Navarro was named to the All-State Football team in 1968-69, Worth Reporter Player of the Year in 1968-69, and also placed 2nd in the IHSA 1968-69 State Wrestling Tournament. In addition, he set the school record for yardage gained by a running back and the record for touchdowns. He is also one of two football players to have his number retired. Navarro went on to earn his teaching degree from the University of Illinois, playing on a football scholarship. After graduation, he began his teaching career which includes 30 years as a teacher and coach at Sandburg. Coach Mike Navarro retired in June 2007, after completing 31 years of full time employment with District 230. People will talk about his fairness, his honesty, his expectations and his successes in the classroom and coach forever.
