Hope Lewellen

During her years at Sandburg High School, Hope Lewellen competed in softball and basketball for four years and swimming for one year. She was All-Conference in softball. After graduation, she earned her degree in Aviation from Lewis University. While working as an airplane mechanic, she lost her leg in an accident. Lewellen did not let her accident stop her. She competed in the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta and won a silver medal in wheelchair tennis, was a quarter-finalist in wheelchair tennis at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, competed in the 2002 World Cup for wheelchair basketball and was on the World Cup team for wheelchair tennis for eight years. She also was on the women's sitting volleyball team that won the bronze medal at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens. She has also volunteered hundred of hours to kids camps and programs all over the US.
