Karen Kasza

After graduating from Stagg, Karen Kasza continued her education at the University of Chicago. She graduated with a B.A. in Physics in addition to a B.S. in Mathematics. Then, in 2010, she received a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University. Her research goal is to shed light both on how cells change, move and grow tobuild functional tissues and how these contribute to human birth defects by studying the Drosphila fruit fly. As a postdoctoral fellow in the Developmental Biology Program at Sloan-Kettering Institute, she continued her interest in developing embryos. In recognition of her work, she received a Helan Hay Whitney Foundation Fellowship in 2011 and a Burroughs Welcome Career Award at the Scientific Interface in 2013. She then joined Columbia University Engineering where she is the Clare Boothe Luce Assitant Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
