While attending Andrew High School, Garrett Jones received first team all-area and second team all-state awards in baseball. He was drafte right out of high school and signed with the Atlanta Braves in the 14th round. He started off in their Gulf Coast League where he debuted with a home run his first at bat.
After some time with the Braves, he signed with the Minnesota Twins. He started in their minor league team and worked his way up for six years to the Rochester AAA team. During that time, he was awarded several player of the week and player of the month awards. Jones continued his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He went on to place 7th in votes for the National League Rookie of the Year Award.
He resides in Tinley Park; providing baseball instruction at the Tinley Park Baseball Academy in his offseason.
