Dr. Joyce Guzik

From Stagg, Dr. Guzik went on to Cornell College in Iowa where she earned Bachelors Degrees in Physics, Mathematics and Russian Studies. From there, she continued her education at Iowa State University where she earned a PhD in Astrophysics. Currently, Dr. Guzik serves as a scientist and laboratory fellow and is part of the nuclear threat assessment group at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. She has earned four Distinguished Performance Awards and 11 Department of Energy Defense Program Awards of Excellence. Supplementary to her work, she has continued astrophysics research in stellar evolution and pulsation, specializing in modeling the sun and pulsating variable stars. Dr. Guzik has received many grants from NASA, the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics and the Laboratory Directed Research Development.

ABOUT US 

The District 230 Foundation is a partnership between community volunteers and school leaders to provide educational opportunities and services for students beyond what the typical budget can fund. The Foundation provides grants that bring teachers' creative ideas to life for students, as well as scholarships to graduating seniors from Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew High Schools. The District 230 Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with the law.
