After graduating from Andrew High School, Lara DeVries attended Trinity Christian College to earn a Bachelors of Arts in both History and Spanish. During her time at Trinity, she visited Lima, Peru where she bared witness to the poverty and need that had taken hold of the Huaycan people. Once she returned from her visit, she wanted to help in any way she could. Once she graduated from Trinity, she moved to Peru joining up with Luz Coralia to the "Light Leadership Initiative." This program offers education and devolpmental growth for underprivileged women and children in the poverty-stricken district of Ate-Vitarte located in Lima, Peru. The program offers instruction such as English, French, Art, Dance, Physical/Mental Health classes and much more.

ABOUT US 

The District 230 Foundation is a partnership between community volunteers and school leaders to provide educational opportunities and services for students beyond what the typical budget can fund. The Foundation provides grants that bring teachers' creative ideas to life for students, as well as scholarships to graduating seniors from Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew High Schools. The District 230 Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with the law.
