Dr. Tanya Carter's story is punctuated by working in schools where the majority of households come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. She chooses to work in these districts exactly for these socioeconomic challenges as she knows her skills will have maximum impact. She believes a school is the focal point of the community and works collaboratively with her colleagues, parents, students and community to best serve their needs. As Director of Student Services for Lansing Elementary School District, Dr. Carter shows through her work and volunteerism that it is important to promote the success of every student by educating the whole child as they are prepared for life-long learning. Dr. Carter is committed to understanding the diverse populations within her school community to create a safe and inviting environment fostering postive learning experiences.

ABOUT US 

The District 230 Foundation is a partnership between community volunteers and school leaders to provide educational opportunities and services for students beyond what the typical budget can fund. The Foundation provides grants that bring teachers' creative ideas to life for students, as well as scholarships to graduating seniors from Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew High Schools. The District 230 Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with the law.
