This Sandburg grad entered active duty after being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from the United States Air Force Academy. Kristen Bakotic has held many assignments including time at the Pentagon, deployment to the Middle East, Commander of a Civic Action Team in the South Pacific and many other tours. In 2008, she was competitively selected for the prestigious White House Miliatry Social Aide program. Once selected, she volunteered to serve as a Military Aide for 147 Presidential events during her tenure. Bakotic has also serviced as the Deputy Director and Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Protocol. She has also overseen more than 500 Department of Defense events and military ceremonies including two POTUS hosted Armed Forces Farewell Tributes, three POTUS/FLOTUS 9/11 Pentagon Memorial Observces, and three National Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Ceremonies.

ABOUT US 

The District 230 Foundation is a partnership between community volunteers and school leaders to provide educational opportunities and services for students beyond what the typical budget can fund. The Foundation provides grants that bring teachers' creative ideas to life for students, as well as scholarships to graduating seniors from Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew High Schools. The District 230 Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with the law.
