While a student at Stagg, Matt was involved in the music and drama programs and took on a leadership role as a drum major. In 2014, Matt graduated, Magna Cum Laude, from DePaul University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations and Advertising. After graduation, Matt’s career began as a competitive Media Analyst in Chicago. After a year, he moved to New York and took on the role as Press Logistics Associate for the Clinton Foundation.
From there he moved to Washington DC as the Press Lead for the Executive Office of the President. His responsibility was to orchestrate all press coverage for Presidential visits, both domestically and internationally. He also liaised with counterparts in White House Communications and the National Security Council to ensure that messaging and policy goals were accomplished and covered by the media. He often had to negotiate with foreign governments and international summit host committees to agree on acceptable press access with an understanding of cultural differences and sensitivities.
While working for the Obama administration, Matt traveled ahead of the President to prepare for the president’s visit; his mode of transportation was Air Force One. While arranging the President’s trip to Chicago in 2016, Matt was able to see his hometown from a new vantage point, from Air Force One, he said, “This is certainly the way to fly.”
